Ilha do Faial (Azores)

Hello everyone! It’s time for one more map! ?

This time, I created the Faial Island (Fayal in English), in the Azores archipelago.

Please read the map notes in the bottom of the page.

Island description
  • Official name: Ilha do Faial
  • Country: Portugal
  • Area: 173.06 km2 (67 sq mi)
  • Highest point: Cabeço gordo
  • Elevation: 1,043 m (3,422 ft)
Map description

A somewhat challenging map, with no external connections, where you can only use harbors, airports and cargo terminals to communicate with the exterior, made for people with a lot of time to spend.

This island includes sea (boats) and air (planes) connection, so you can build habors and airports wherever your please.

Be aware that, even though the island has no external connections in the beggining, people will automatically spawn in the first residential areas you put.

This island is fully working (see last screenshot on this page).

So, here’s what’s challenging about this map: the cims life cycle plays a huge role in this map. As the first batch of people spawn in your island, children will spawn too because of cims reproduction.

If you let the harbor active, new people will come to your city. If you delete it after the first batch of people, the life cycle comes in.

Those kids will grow up and, when they’re young adults, they’ll live in a separate house, occupying more houses.

The young adults will eventually turn into adults, and it loops as a biologic life cycle (Born – Aging – Reproduction – Die).

Instead of an highway, I built an avenue, that goes around a fourth of the island. I highly recommend building avenues instead of highways, because of the available space for highways, and because of the realism factor (only roads in the real island).

Mods used in the screenshots
  • Mediterranean Temperate – OWL
  • 81 Tiles
  • Unlimited Outside Connections (Beta)
  • More Network Stuff

Please read this

NOTES ABOUT THIS MAP:
  • After Dark compatible
  • There are no oil deposits
  • No external highway / road connection
  • >90% geographically accurate
  • A harbor must be built in order for people to come in, even if no boat has yet arrived. It can be deleted after the first batch of people for a bigger challenge (life cycle challenge)
  • No roads or rails, when comparing this map with the real island, exist in real life.
  • Compatible with the 81 Tiles mod (I actually recommend this mod to play in this island, so you can use every tile possible)
