Golf Course Creator 10 assets PROCEDURAL

Golf Course Creator by pauljchris

Pack of 10 procedural assets comprising Par 3 , Par 4 and par 5 straight golf hole templates, 2 bunkers ( large & small) ,standalone tee box and green, 2 fairway pieces (straight and curved), and a tee box marker set. All the assets are fully procedural meaning you can create any shape of hole you wish and also shape the bunkers, greens and tee boxes to fit your design while in the game engine. Small resource footprint. Original models by myself.

IMPORTANT You must subscribe to the Procedural objects mod before downloading this asset or the golf set models will not be accessible within your game. Before using the Procedural assets mod it is highly recommended to watch a short video by the author of the mod in order to familiarize yourself with the controls for manipulating procedural objects when in the game.

Once you have subscribed to the procedural objects mod and this asset pack, then open up the procedural objects menu when in the game and you should see all 6 models of the golf course creator pack in the list ready for placement.

If you like this you may also be interested in my Golf Driving Range 1-1 model ( non procedural) which is designed to work with this set

Model specs

Par 3 hole 386 tris
Par 4 hole 498 tris
Par 5 hole 563 tris
Fairway straight 416 tris
Fairway bend 416 tris
Large bunker 212 tris
Small bunker 124 tris
Standalone tee box 68 tris
Standalone green 212 tris
Tee box marker set 160 tris

All models 512 x 512 diffuse except for the tee box markers which are 64 x 64

NB There are NO LODS with procedural objects. Instead performance is controlled by a render distance slider which is set for each object when first placed in the game world. This controls the distance when the object disappears and is no longer drawn by the engine. For very large objects such as these golf holes , this number needs to be set to at least 5000 or higher if you still wish to see the holes when viewing your city from afar. This should be ok as they are not particularly demanding models for performance. The tee box models and maybe the bunkers can be set at a lower number if desired.

Placement tips / suggested usage

Golf courses are large at 1-1 scale. Allow enough space for a decent layout. The in game model lengths are:

Par 3 144m or 157 yards
Par 4 208m or 227 yards
Par 5 424m or 463 yards

1/ Open the procedural objects tab and select your desired hole type from the menu and place it in the game world.

2/ Decide if you need to lengthen or shorten the hole. To lengthen you can either select all the vertices around the tee or the green and stretch them out manually or scale up the whole model. To shorten a hole the best way is to uniform scale it downwards, then manually widen the fairway if it becomes too narrow as a result of scaling. Alternative method is to place the tee box , fairway piece and standalone green if you require a non continous type of hole where there is a gap between the fairway and green.

3/ Decide if you want a dog leg ( bend) left or right in your hole. To create a dog leg, select all the vertices of the green and fairway up to the point of the bend and move them all at once left or right. This will badly sheer the texture temporarliy but this is ok for the moment.

4/ Select fairway vertices in groups of 3 to in include the left, right and centre points and slide them into positon in a way such as to create a natural curve in the texture. Hold the shift key for finer adjustments. You can also rotate slightly around the centre vertex to create a better curve.

5 With the tee and green where you want them, consider elevation changes. IMPORTANT NOTE you cannot go below the bottom of the model so consider carefully where the lowest point in your hole is located and make sure any elevation changes are above this level. The only exception to this is if you want to create breaks in the fairway for say a path crossing or river. In this case you need to push the vertices well down below the ground. This will allow you to put anything you like in the break in the fairway that this will create.

6/ Once you are happy with the rough outline and elevation changes, then lower the whole model down into the terrain until the lowest point of the model touches the ground texture. Then use the in game terraform settings on the very smallest settings. Add a serious of small terrain uplifts along te edge of the fairway, then press CTRL-Z. Instead of undoing your changes this will return the terran to an average value which will blend the model vrey naturally into the terrain and hide the hard edges of the model. The use the smoothing tool to refine the edge to reveal more or less of the fringe as desired.

7 Adjust the shape and sizes of both the green and tee box by pulling around individual or small groups of vertices. With a bit of practise a surprising variety of green shapes and subtle undulations can be achieved. Drop the tee box model on top of your reshaped tee box, then move the markers around to create realistic distances between the tees.

8 Drop some bunker models into your hole, scale and rotate to taste and then move them down to ground level. The bunker models have a lip side and and a lower more open side which is supposed to face the player but you can adjust this if you wish. Adjust the bunker shape by moving the individual vertices around. Again, a surprising variety of shapes can be achieved with a bit of practise.

9 Add finishing touches such as cart paths etc. using the in game gravel path. Also try subtly changing the dead straight edges of the fairway to follow the terrain a bit as this makes it look much more natural.

Have fun and unleash your creativity. The full 18 holes shown in the screen shots above did take several hours to complete but it really quie fun to mak eup holes with this set once you get the hang of how to place and manipulate the pieces. This was done with vanilla game trees and default LUT , a better result could be achieved with better trees. I did down load some existing golf cart models and flags from the workshop which you can easily find by searching for “golf” items. I hope you enjoy this mod as much as did making it. If you make any nice courses please post a link to pictures in this thread and I wil upload the best of them to the main mod screen with due credit to the creator.

If you find this set useful, please remember to give a rating/and or a review, this will be gratefuly appreciated.
