Second offical flag of the Confederate States. It was changed from the Stars and Bars because it was considered to be too similar to the Stars and Stripes so it was changed to something that wasn’t anything like the American flag. They incorperated the army’s Southern Cross because of the popularity of the design by the time the national flag was to be changed.

This flag has gotten a bad reputation by media because they said that this flag was called the “White Man’s Banner”. The truth about that is that a few southern politicians and the creator of the flag wanted to use the banner as the flag used to invade the Caribbean and use the flag as a bit of a Manifest Destiny for the South. This whole “White Man’s Banner” idea never really caught on in the south because they had been in a war for a few years and the soldiers were all sick of war. The very idea of invading the Caribbean was unpopular hence why it was offically called the “Stainless Banner” not the “White Man’s Banner”.
